Dakota Horbaczek, hailing from Pittsburgh, PA, has always been driven by a passion for music and its profound impact on the human spirit. Before founding DI Records, Dakota contributed significantly to the music industry, working with the street teams of notable labels such as Sumerian Records, Artery Recordings, and Another Century. His experiences laid the groundwork for what would become a sanctuary for local and independent artists—DI Records.
Established in 2019, DI Records began as a simple Facebook page named 'PA Local Bands' and has since blossomed into a globally recognized platform advocating for mental health awareness and suicide prevention. At DI Records, every artist is part of a larger mission: to harness the power of music as a lifesaving tool. This commitment stems from Dakota's personal belief that music is not just entertainment; it's a lifeline.
In this podcast episode, we discuss the challenges and triumphs of running an independent label, the landscape of today’s music industry, and the crucial role of music in supporting mental well-being. Dakota shares insights into the process of discovering new talent, the importance of community support in the music scene, and how DI Records is making a difference in the lives of artists and listeners alike.
Dakota also shares stories from the front lines of the music industry, provides advice for aspiring artists and entrepreneurs, and reveals the behind-the-scenes dynamics of managing a label that’s as much about music as it is about message.

I'm your host, Kelly Frost, and today, we're diving into the enchanting world of event planning with a very special guest and a dear friend, Gary White. In this solo episode—no co-host needed—we unpack the nuances of orchestrating memorable events, spotlighting our upcoming Kentucky Derby extravaganza.
The Heart of the EventThis Saturday, May 4th, marks a unique collaboration between Gary and myself as we host the Kentucky Derby event at Fogo de Sean, a Brazilian Steakhouse that's a culinary gem in downtown Pittsburgh. Fogo de Chao isn't just any restaurant; it's a place where every meal is a celebration, and it has been my go-to spot for years. As for Gary, he's not only one of Pittsburgh's finest restaurateurs but also a beacon of customer service and genuine kindness.
Who is Gary White?Gary White is a pillar of the Pittsburgh community, with over 30 years in customer service and event planning. His background spans a dynamic range of roles, from being a sales manager at Fogo de Chao, focusing on corporate events and community engagement, to owning Gary White Signature Events LLC. Gary’s commitment extends beyond the professional realm—he is an ordained deacon and the founder of the Men’s Power Brunch, a gathering that emphasizes prayer, praise, fellowship, and community service.
Gary’s involvement in the music scene is particularly notable. He has played a significant role in sustaining the historic music culture of Pittsburgh, from jazz nights at Savoy to bringing renowned artists to the city. His work not only entertains but also preserves the rich musical heritage that connects Pittsburgh from the days of the Granada and The Crawford Grille, pivotal spots in the jazz scene from the 1930s to the 1970s.

In this special installment, we're joined by Pittsburgh's own John Chamberlin and Rachael Rennebeck, the dynamic duo behind YaJagoff Media, LLC. These self-proclaimed "jagoffs" have not only embraced but also elevated a term that's as Pittsburgh as pierogies and Primanti Bros. Their podcast, "YaJagoff," celebrates all things Pittsburgh, from its 412 to 724 area codes, focusing on the city's culture, humor, and the local lexicon that binds its community together. The term “jagoff” has had its journey, from street language to being recognized in the Oxford English Dictionary in 2017, and while the dictionary may not have captured its full essence, John and Rachael certainly do on their show.
Joining them is co-host Sheila Hyland, a veteran in the realms of broadcasting and media training. Sheila, having spent over two decades as a TV news anchor and reporter in Pittsburgh and beyond, brings her expertise in media communication and her passion for storytelling to the table—or should we say, to the mic. With her extensive experience interviewing a spectrum of notable figures, from Presidents to Nobel Peace Prize winners, Sheila adds a layer of depth and professionalism to our lively discussion.
In today's episode, we delve into how John and Rachael's experiences in marketing, public relations, and living the Pittsburgh life led them to start YaJagoff Media. They share tales from their journey, highlighting how local culture can influence broader media ventures and the importance of embracing regional idiosyncrasies in a global world. Their stories are a testament to how local pride can turn into a professional passion, leading to the creation of a business that not only entertains but serves the community.
